Proposed $69 million budget holds the millage at 1.7261
The proposed 2026/27 budget lands 2.5% lower while the millage rate stays put for a 31st year.
A proposed $69,046,447 all-funds budget for 2026/27 is in front of the City Commission, coming in $1,771,304 — or 2.50% — below the prior year's amended budget. The proposal covers both operating and capital spending, with the General Fund portion set at $56,874,432. The recommendation is to hold the millage rate at 1.7261, which would make a 31st consecutive year without a rate increase. Because taxable values rose, that flat rate sits 2.03% above the rolled-back rate, so adopting it takes a two-thirds vote of the Commission rather than a simple majority. At 1.7261 the city projects $23,452,500 in ad valorem revenue, $185,815 more than the prior year. Building the proposal involved asking department directors to reduce overall expenditures by 15%. None of these figures has been adopted. (City of Aventura)
Three Metropolitan Urban Center overlays head to September hearings
Three zoning-map ordinances have cleared first reading and would lay new Metropolitan Urban Center overlays across parts of the Biscayne Boulevard corridor. MUC1 would apply to roughly 85 acres east of Biscayne Boulevard and south of Aventura Boulevard down to the William Lehman Causeway. MUC2 would cover about 35 acres in the same general area, and MUC3 about 10 acres west of Biscayne Boulevard between NE 209th and NE 206th streets — the only one of the three tracts described as sitting west of the boulevard. All three amendments move on the same track, with hearings scheduled for September 8, 2026. Nothing has been rezoned; these remain proposed overlays. (City of Aventura)

Sunny Isles Beach e-bike rules start August 16
E-bike riders in neighboring Sunny Isles Beach must be at least 16 years old, carry government-issued photo identification and stay off sidewalks beginning August 16. The age minimum, the identification requirement and the sidewalk ban all take effect on that same date. A first violation carries a $250 fine, with $500 for later violations. The rules apply within Sunny Isles Beach city limits and not in Aventura, so the practical effect falls on Aventura-area riders who cross the municipal line heading toward the beach. Riders who stay on the Aventura side see no change. (NBC 6 South Florida)
Missoni is open at Aventura Mall
Missoni's newly opened boutique at Aventura Mall, 19501 Biscayne Boulevard, runs daily hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Sunday, holding the same 7 p.m. close on weekends as on weekdays. There is no shortened Sunday schedule and no later weekend closing. The mix covers ready-to-wear and beachwear along with home items and gifts, so the assortment is not limited to apparel. Lien-search fee would more than double, to $125
Aventura's lien-search fee would climb from $50 to $125 under a proposed ordinance that also allows future annual administrative increases. Both pieces travel together in the same measure: the jump to $125 and the mechanism for adjusting the fee in later years. A second reading is scheduled for September 8, 2026. Until the ordinance is adopted, the $50 rate is what applies, and that second reading is the next step on the calendar. (City of Aventura)
Senior pop-up planned for August 21
A senior pop-up event is set for August 21, 2026, timed to National Senior Citizens Day, after the Community Services Advisory Board voted unanimously to repeat it. Board members took assignments to contact possible locations around the city and report back. What is settled is the date; a start time, final locations, a registration process and eligibility details have not been published, and the where and how are still being worked out through those location contacts.
