Commission votes to make new guest suites a conditional use
What the Oct. 6 commission vote changed, a refund deadline, a new coworking space and two December shows.
Thinking about building a guest suite for visiting family? Start with the Oct. 6 commission vote, which changes how the city classifies new ones.
If the city already approved a guest suite at your home, staff said the Oct. 6 change does not reach back to it. Commissioners voted that day to make new guest suites a conditional use, part of a land-development code update they passed on second reading with no dissent. If you are planning a suite, ask the city how that classification will apply to your project before you draw up plans. The consent agenda also passed unanimously, with nothing pulled for separate debate.
At the same meeting, the city clerk walked through the Nov. 3 election, where voters will see two proposed charter amendments. One concerns elected officials' annual salaries. The other deals with the rotation requirement for the city's independent auditor. Those questions go to voters, and the Commission took no action on them.
The Commission also set aside Oct. 7 for remembrance and community resilience, named October 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month and recognized city employees for service milestones.
During public comment, a resident flagged poor traffic visibility near Villa Dorado. In response, the mayor said Public Works would be asked, through the City Manager, to review the spot.
Venture X coworking opens at the 10X Centre
Aventura has a new coworking option. Venture X Aventura, run by Priddy Spaces, is open at the 10X Centre and signing up members. The space covers 17,893 square feet, with 73 private offices sized for one person up to teams of eight. It also has 16 dedicated desks and three meeting rooms. Tours are being booked for would-be members and for commercial real estate brokers. It is aimed at entrepreneurs, established businesses and satellite teams.
Arquitectonica designed the 11-story building, which has a secured, covered garage attached. The building offers an on-site café, valet and car wash service. A padel center sits on top of the parking garage.
Absolute Queen shows move to April 11, 2027
The Absolute Queen tribute dates at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center now fall on Sunday, April 11, 2027, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., replacing the Oct. 3 shows. The presenter cited circumstances outside its control. Ticket holders keep their original seat and show time on the new date, so anyone planning to attend in April does not need to do anything. American Idol finalist Bo Bice is billed as the special guest.
If April does not work, you must ask for a refund before Oct. 30. Only the original buyer can request one, and the money goes back to the card used to buy the tickets. Requests go through your Ticketmaster account, by email or chat. The event page says it cannot offer customer service or refunds for tickets bought from brokers or unofficial resale sites.
