Lead story

Wilson Sporting Goods is headed to Aventura Mall at 19501 Biscayne Boulevard. The planned store would run 2,017 square feet and would be Wilson's second brick-and-mortar location in Florida. It would carry sporting equipment, performance footwear and athletic apparel. Beyond retail, two in-store services are planned: on-site racket stringing and equipment customization. The location also plans community events. For local racket-sport players, the on-site stringing is the practical hook. It would mean restringing a racket close to home instead of shipping it out for service, handled in person while the rest of the mall errands get done. The equipment customization works the same way, letting gear get tuned on site rather than ordered blind. That service angle, plus the planned community events, is what separates this from a standard apparel shop. No opening date has been announced, so this is a watch-for-it rather than a go-now. Wilson is one of two new retailers currently headed to the mall, alongside luggage brand RIMOWA. What Now Miami reported the plans on July 11. The store is described as coming soon, with no firm timeline attached to the announcement. (What Now Miami)

Across Florida

Speed enforcement rises across Florida through July 18

Florida drivers face stepped-up speed enforcement through July 18. Operation Southern Slow Down runs July 13-18, pairing increased speed enforcement with public education. Five states take part: Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Speeding was a factor in about six percent of Florida traffic deaths in the state's 2024 crash facts report. RIMOWA luggage is coming to Aventura Mall

RIMOWA, the Cologne-based luggage maker known for its grooved aluminum suitcases, is planning a boutique at Aventura Mall at 19501 Biscayne Boulevard. The store would sell the brand's premium luggage and travel accessories, aluminum cases included. RIMOWA was founded in 1898 and has been owned by LVMH since 2017. No official opening date has been announced, so it sits in the same coming-soon column as Wilson. For anyone eyeing a hard-shell travel upgrade, it is one more coming-soon store to track before the mall confirms a date. (What Now Miami)

Kendra Scott Match Day comes to Aventura Mall

Aventura Mall has a Kendra Scott Match Day, Made Personal activation running July 16-18 on the lower level, near Nike. Guests can use the Color Bar to create jewelry inspired by a favorite team's colors. It is a make-it-yourself activity rather than a sit-and-watch event, so it pairs naturally with the mall's other match-week programming. If team-colored jewelry is your way of showing up for the tournament, the Color Bar is the hands-on version. (Aventura Mall)

Aventura Mall hosts a Championship Match watch party Sunday

Aventura Mall hosts a Championship Match Watch Party on Sunday, July 19, from noon to 2 p.m. It runs in the Viewing Lounge on the lower level, near Bloomingdale's. Plans include a live DJ, photo opportunities and complimentary mini soccer-ball customization. If watching the match at the mall appeals to you, it is a fixed-time option with a set two-hour window and a photo backdrop built in. The mini soccer-ball customization is complimentary, so it is a low-lift way to mark the match while you are there. (Aventura Mall)

Coffee and DJs at Aventura Mall on Saturday morning

Aventura Mall runs Coffee & Beats on Saturday, July 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., ahead of the World Cup third-place match. It takes place in the Viewing Lounge on the lower level, near Bloomingdale's, the same room used for Sunday's watch party. DJs Aya, V1FRO and Gleece are set to spin, and Naughty Coffee will serve drinks. An RSVP link is posted, so it is worth reserving a spot before you go rather than counting on walk-in room. It leads into the mall's match-week programming. (Aventura Mall)

City Hall

Aventura's commission reviews the budget July 23

Aventura's City Commission has a budget review set for Thursday, July 23, at 9 a.m. It meets in the 5th Floor Executive Conference Room at 19200 West Country Club Drive. A City Commission regular workshop is set for the same time and place. The calendar provides no agenda topics beyond the budget review, so the useful move is to watch for the agenda before the meeting. The 9 a.m. start makes it a weekday-morning session for anyone who wants to attend in person. (City of Aventura calendar)
